Established in 2006, the HGCC is guided by an Executive Board composed of committed graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from various departments across Harvard University. The Presidents, along with Senior Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents from our teams, collaborate to organize and spearhead diverse programming initiatives for the HGCC community.

Taylor Covington
Taylor is a PhD Candidate in the Harvard Biological and Biomedical Sciences program and the Leder Human Biology & Translational Medicine Program. She is co-advised by Dr. Thomas Michel and Dr. Ed Chouchani. Her thesis work focuses on how perinatal oxidative stress impacts cardiac development.

President
Shelley Cheng
Shelley is a Ph.D. Candidate in Astronomy & Astrophysics at Harvard University. Her thesis work is advised by Prof. Charlie Conroy and focuses on modeling the eruptive mass loss observed to occur in massive stars. She will be joining McKinsey & Company's New Jersey office as an Associate in mid-2026.

Senior VP of Partnerships and Engagement
Basit Salik
Basit is a cancer immunologist and postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His research focuses on hematopoietic stem cell aging and the development of therapeutic strategies for cancers of the blood. He earned his Ph.D. in immuno-oncology and brings a perspective that bridges scientific research and strategic thinking.

David Wood
David is a postdoctoral fellow researching the impact of metabolic signals on disease progression and cellular function. He received his PhD in biophysics and biochemistry in New Zealand focusing on new strategies to combat the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance.

Karla Martinez Nevarez
Karla is a PhD Candidate in the Harvard Biological and Biomedical Sciences program and the Program in Genetics and Genomics. Her thesis works focuses on the impact of environmental factors on gene expression and regulation programs in humans.

Valay is a Ph.D candidate in the Harvard Biological Sciences in Public Health program. He is a G1 and still rotating in different labs.

Dwayne Evans
Dwayne is a PhD Candidate in the Harvard Biological and Biomedical Sciences program. His thesis work in the lab of Suzanne Walker focuses on the mechanisms and drug targets for cell wall and cell envelope synthesis in the Gram-positive bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus.

Jennifer Su
Jennifer is a PhD Candidate in the Harvard Biological and Biomedical Sciences program and the Leder Human Biology & Translational Medicine Program. She is completing her thesis work in the lab of Dr. Roby Bhattacharyya at Broad Institute. Her project focuses on understanding the community-level antibiotic resistance observed in Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE).

Noah Zhang
Noah is a PhD candidate in the Molecules, Cells, and Organisms (MCO) program at Harvard University. His thesis work is advised by Dr. Dragana Rogulja and focuses on elucidating how the brain's circadian clock adapts to environmental stress to regulate behavior and physiology in Drosophila.

Yishi is a first-year student in the Master in Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) program at the Harvard Kennedy School. Her academic and professional interests center on health policy and economic development, with a focus on improving healthcare access and outcomes through data-driven policy solutions.

Gaganpreet Kaur
Gaganpreet Kaur is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Vascular Biology at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Brigham. Funded by the American Heart Association, her research focuses on stress signaling in cardiovascular disease and employs glycoanalytical approaches to study the mechanobiology of endothelial cells.

Jennifer Jiang
Jennifer is a Ph.D. candidate in the Systems, Synthetic, and Quantitative Biology (SSQB) program at Harvard University. In Dr. Phil Cole’s lab, Jennifer's research focuses on engineering tools for understanding protein post-translational modifications involved in epigenetic regulation and cancer.
